Mystery stalker ‘able to see everything’ warns iPhone owner and urges everyone to check hidden ‘spying’ tool in Settings
IPHONE owners have been urged to check a setting that can help to protect them from device stalkers.
In a recent Reddit post, a frightened user shared that their friend’s iPhone activity was being stalked by someone.
“This person knows what TV shows they are watching on the Netflix app, can see what they are searching on Google, etc…,” they said.
“I have never come across this before, and I would appreciate any advice to help my friend here if possible?” they asked.
Users quickly jumped in with recommendations, including enabling Safety Check.
Apple launched Safety Check in recent years and it can potentially save your life if someone is secretly stalking you.
The setting is currently available on all iPhone models running iOS 16 or later.
WHAT IS SAFETY CHECK?
The feature is designed to help people quickly stop sharing their information.
It can be used to review and update sharing with individual people and apps.
Some other functions of the tool include restricting messages and FaceTime to your iPhone and resetting system privacy permissions for apps.
You can also change your passcode, change your Apple ID password, and more.
Perhaps most notable, however, is an emergency option that can reset all permissions you may have given to anyone.
HOW TO USE IT
To use Safety Check, you need to make sure your device is running iOS 16 or later.
You’ll also need to have a personal Apple ID with two-factor authentication switched on.
Once that’s done, navigate to Settings, tap on Privacy & Security, and then click on Safety Check to access the feature.
You can see a list of apps and prevent them from sharing content with other people.
That includes Health, Home, Shared Calendars, Shared Location, Shared Notes, and Shared Photos.
You can also block apps from gathering certain types of data, including preventing access to the microphone, camera, and contacts.
