Wednesday forecast: Highs of 61 degrees expected, winds up to 25 mph

National Weather Service officials said temperatures could reach up to 61 degrees Wednesday with a slight chance of showers around midnight.

Current morning conditions at O’Hare International Airport were mostly cloudy at 50 degrees, and farther south at Midway Airport conditions were the same, officials said.

Southwest winds are 10 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph, officials said. Winds are expected to shift later Wednesday to the northeast blowing at about five mph when there is 20 percent chance of showers after midnight.

Isolated scattered thunderstorms may develop south of I-80 in the evening hours into the early overnight hours with a slight chance of penny to quarter-size hail, officials said.

The chance of showers increases to 40 percent Thursday, but a sunny weekend was expected, officials said.
