He Caused Them Problems – Leeds United Out On Loan Star’s Talent Noted By Boss
York City boss Neal Ardley has revealed that he was impressed with Leeds United loanee Charlie Allen after watching him during a Whites Under-21s game.
Allen has been a regular for the Leeds Under-21 side this season and his performances for the Whites development side have earned him an initial one-month loan move to York City.
The Leeds youngster made his York City debut on Tuesday against Oldham Athletic and helped his side to a 1-1 draw.
Ardley, who watched Allen during the Leeds Under-21s Premier League Cup match against Chelsea in November, revealed that the 20-year-old caught his eye with his impressive performance during the game.
The York City boss pointed out that Allen is very good at taking players on one-on-one and will provide pace and directness to his team.
When asked what the Leeds United loanee brings to his team, Ardley told York City’s official media: “Mainly his pace and his directness.
“He can get at people 1v1 and take people on.
“He scored a few goals recently for the Leeds Under-21s.
“I came and watched Leeds play Chelsea here a couple of months back and Chelsea were very strong, but there was one player on the Leeds team that caused them numerous problems and that was Charlie.
“I came away and I sent the boys the team sheet, and I said to keep an eye on this lad.
“He was really, really good on that day and when we were talking about wingers and we were talking about maybe just bringing in something different to what we have, he was in the back of my mind and the lads went away and watched and we all came to the decision that we would be a good asset for us and hopefully will be.”
The 20-year-old will be keen to impress during his loan spell with York City to attract the attention of Leeds United manager Daniel Farke and get into his plans for next season.
