Albany Public Library offering free instrument lessons

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Albany Public Library has once again expanded its repertoire of free digital resources to include music tutorials. APL card holders will now be able to access virtual guitar, bass and ukulele lessons through the 'hoopla' library streaming platform.

Video instrument lesson service Fret Zealot has recently partnered with hoopla to offer music tutorials to library patrons. Card holders can access the courses by logging in to their free hoopla account through the APL.

“Our users want to learn something specific - it could be a song that’s too difficult, but then there are courses that teach the technique that song uses,” said Zealot Interactive CEO Shaun Masavage. “By offering over a hundred courses and thousands of video lessons, we’ve created an ecosystem that lets people learn what they want, with some structure, but not the mandates of what a certain instructor or school might want to teach them.”

Lessons are available for those just getting acquainted with their instrument as well as advanced players who are looking to improve their skills. The courses are taught by world-class instructors from a variety of musical backgrounds.

Albany Public Library has seven branches across the city. You can find the location closest to you by visiting the APL website.
