De La Paz arraigned on new charge, trial date set for May 20
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- The trial of former teacher Jacob De La Paz on child pornography charges has been set for May 20, after his arraignment on Tuesday of a second charge in connection with the case, court records show.
De La Paz, a former teacher at St. Thomas More Catholic High School in Lafayette, was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 17 and arraigned on May 23 for one count of attempted production of child pornography in connection with an incident on or about Jan. 12, 2023. The second indictment was on a charge of attempted receipt of child pornography.
Records show De La Paz pleaded not guilty to both charges at the arraignment via Zoom, in front of Magistrate Judge David J. Ayo. He remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service pending further proceedings.
As reported by KLFY, he left the school abruptly on April 27, and was arrested by agents of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security the next day.
