Report: Ayr United 1 Hibs Dev Squad 5
The Hibs Dev Squad ran out emphatic winners over Ayr United in the cinch Reserve League on Tuesday afternoon.
Guillaume Beuzelin’s side ran out comfortable 5-1 winners at Townhead Park in what was an impressive display from start to finish.
Five goals from five different scorers earned the Hibees all three points as we moved up to fifth in the cinch Reserve League.
Molotnikov opened the scoring after six minutes from a set-piece. The midfielder was fouled at the edge of the penalty area before stepping up himself to take the free kick – which he fired through the wall and into the back of the net to give the Hibees the lead.
Ten minutes later, Kanayo Megwa doubled our advantage. The full-back rose the highest to meet Reuben McAllister’s corner with his effort coming back off the bar. Kanayo was quickest to react smashing the rebound home from the edge of the six-yard box.
The Hibees went on to add three further goals in the second 45. Malik Zaid did well to win a free kick on the edge of the area, which Reuben McAllister stepped up and converted – curling his effort brilliantly round the wall.
Robbie Hamilton then added a fourth which was arguably the pick of the bunch. Molotnikov and Hamilton combined on the edge of the area before Rory Whittaker played an excellent back-heel round the corner into Hamilton’s path. The Hibs midfielder took it in his stride before calmly slotting the ball home with his left foot.
Jacob Blaney then added the icing on the cake, nodding home Reuben McAllister’s corner at the front post and finding the far corner 15 minutes from time.
After making some big saves in the second half, Freddie Owens will have been disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet with the hosts pulling back a late consolation goal in the final five minutes.
Hibs Starting XI: Johnson, Whittaker, Blaney, Megwa, Calder, Cadden, McAllister, Molotnikov, Cleland, Hamilton, Zaid.
