Holton's Walker finding groove with Washburn softball
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Holton native Sadie Walker is settling in as an Ichabod in her sophomore season.
On Monday, Walker was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week. The honor came after not allowing a run in four appearances at the Washburn Invitational. She finished the weekend 3-0, including two complete game shutouts.
"It was pretty cool," Walker said of the conference honor. "I feel like it was reassurance of the growth that I've made since last season."
She capped off the stellar week with a five-inning perfect game against Rockhurst. The complete weekend stat line was: 16.2 IP, 12 hits, three walks and 17 strikeouts.
"Things have been going really good," Walker said on Wednesday. "...This season I feel a lot more mentally clear and able to just worry about what I need to do and not let anything outside of me really impact how I'm doing."
Walker stayed hot on Friday with a scoreless inning against Purdue Northwest. Her season total currently adds up to a 0.50 ERA in 55.2 IP with eight wins, two losses and one save. She's struck out 50 before conference play even begins.
Walker said Jaycee Ginter, a WU senior and All-American, has served as a mentor.
Washburn softball is 15-4 to start the year.
