Deputies save six puppies from Argyle fire
ARGYLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A pair of Washington County Sheriff’s deputies saved several dogs from a house fire in Argyle. Upon their arrival at the fire, Deputies Gillis and Catone, both of whom happened to be named Logan, were told all homeowners escaped. There was still a problem, however.
“I confirm with the homeowner that all humans are out of the home at which time she confirmed that there were multiple dogs still inside the residence,” said Gillis.
Fast on his feet, the deputy raced into the flames and found a crate containing six puppies. A total of 11 were in the home at the time.
“I'm a big dog lover. I believe everybody has a soft spot in their heart for dogs, so I went in there and I tried to save as many dogs as I could that night" Gillis recounted.
As you can, imagine, Catone was surprised to see his partner carrying a crate of pups.
“I was thinking the worst at the time when I pulled up, but when I got out there, he handed me a crate of puppies, and that made me feel a little relieved that it wasn't people, but it was a good feeling that we could save animals" Catone remembered.
Sadly, two pugs perished in the blaze.
“We did the best we could do under the circumstances that presented themselves to us, and that night I believe both of us did the best we could," Gillis told NEWS10.
In a heartwarming end to this difficult story, Deputy Gillis adopted two of the dogs he rescued.
