Ex-GOP lawmaker compares Fani Willis claims to Republicans' crumbling Hunter Biden probe
Speaking to MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace on Friday, former Rep. David Jolly (R-FL) compared the Trump co-defendants in Fulton County, Georgia, to the Republican Trump allies in the U.S. House of Representatives.
"Look, in this case for people, not lawyers like [MSNBC host] Katie Phang, and not skilled with the courtroom as she is, to the layperson," said Jolly. "This sounds and looks a lot like the House Republicans investigation of Hunter Biden. It's like what are we really talking about and what are we trying to get to the bottom of? Because it has nothing to do with the actual indictment, the allegations of election tampering in the state of Georgia."
Trump allies have claimed that Fani Willis was engaged in some kind of financial deal with Nathan Wade where she'd hire him and he'd use the money from the contract to take her on lavish vacations.

"So, I think for non-lawyers and for people worried about justice and democracy, you're right to feel maybe accountability is beginning to slip away, because this is one of those weeks between the high court's decision on taking the case on immunity [to] now what we see in the courtroom," Jolly continued.
However, he explained that the lawyers were legitimately arguing in font of the judge about whether the standard is an "appearance of conflict of interest" or an actual conflict.
"Once again, you've lost the American people, but I suggest that hopefully justice actually does win the day here, because if Trump's lawyers and the defendant's lawyer argue the standard only needs to be 'appearance of conflict of interest' it's because they know they failed to establish a real conflict of interest," Jolly said.
Katie Phang pointed out that the judge must decide the case under the law and using the facts, not the appearance or whether or not there would be any accountability for Trump in Georgia.
It's "hard to see this case surviving the disqualification of Fani Willis," Jolly closed.
