‘Do NOT do it or let anyone tempt you’ pro cleaner begs as she lists 14 things she’s never put in her home
BUILDING your dream is something we’ve all thought about, but what is it really like to live in a home you’ve built for yourself?
Whilst it might be fun to think about, one cleaner has warned people against getting these features in their homes – with ‘foul’ luxury showers and ‘dust for days’ in blinds.
If you are following Cleanlikeapro on Tiktok, prepare to meet your new favourite influencer.
Featuring Kate, from Mates Rates Cleaning, the content creator seemingly has a nifty tip for every household chore or nook and cranny.
Rather than boring instructional videos though, she will often inject some humour into the short clips and is brutally honest about how frustrating some things are to clean.
In fact, she even ranked her most hated design choices and begged fans not to add them to their homes – and there are 14 of them.
“Don’t do, don’t get these in your house…trust me you will regret it,” she pointedly told her, 96,000 followers, adding: “What I am about to show you is what I would never get in my home if I was about to build or renovates.”
It seems that the bathroom was one of biggest bug bares, with luxurious fittings often ending up layered with gunk and debris.
Showing months of layered hair build-up in trench drain, she pointedly said: “Trench drains…oh my god, they are absolutely foul… disgusting…hate them.”
If that wasn’t enough to put you off, the build-up of grime ‘stunk’ and added: “Do not be tempted to get this.”
Baths weren’t the obvious alternative either, as having a large tub close to the wall can often mean that debris collects beside it – with homeowners having to spend ages cleaning between the crevices.
Flooring was also another major issue, with high-gloss tiles attaching every possible bit of dirt as your family moves through the home.
“Don’t do it, unless of course you enjoy mopping everyday,” she complained, despite how beautiful the tiles looked in her Tiktok video.
You also might want to rethink laying carpet, as the cleaning whizz revealed that some fabrics are ‘like Velcro’ for pet hair and urged fans to check before they buy.
Raking through the carpet, the Aussie influencer even built up a stomaching churningly impressive pile of pet and human hair – just to emphasise her point.
Fold-out windows and l blinds were also on her hit list with domestic goddess explaining that they often take longer to clean than traditional furnishings.
As her colleague wiped down the Venetian blinds, she complained: “The amount of dust that these gather will drive you nuts…look at it. There is just dust for days.”
Vertical blinds were also a big ‘no no’, with various splatters collecting on the fabric as it trailed along the ground.
Luxury items even cause havoc in places that people keep clean regularly, with dirt collecting around built-in storage and cabinets.
If you want to have a squeaky clean space, you might want to forgo adding lazy Susans, built-in bins or spice – as Kate showed how difficult they were to clean.
Wipeable surfaces such as dark kitchen cabinets and mirror backsplash didn’t fair much better, but she got particularly simmering over large ovens.
“You don’t need an oven this size,” she argued, adding: “There is a million different pieces to it, there’s hidden compartments everywhere…and the amount of work it takes to keep these clean, it’s just not worth it.”
Well, that’s one of two things crossed off the wish list.
