Huge Netflix show starring Oscar winning actress brutally cancelled after just one season – despite glowing reviews
MICHELLE Yeoh’s Netflix series The Brothers Sun has been cancelled after just one season – despite glowing reviews.
The show landed on the global streaming site on January 4 but will not be returning for a second run.
The action-comedy was created by Glee and American Horror Story co-creator Brad Falchuk and newcomer Byron Wu.
In addition to Oscar-winner Yeoh, Justin Chien, Sam Song Li, Highdee Kuan and Joon Lee also starred in the eight-part series.
News of the cancellation was reported by The Hollywood Reporter but a reason has not yet been confirmed.
The series followed Chein, who portrayed a mobster going to Los Angeles to protect his estranged mother after his father was assassinated in Taipei.
“As Taipei’s deadliest societies and a new rising faction go head-to-head for dominance — Charles, Bruce and their mother must heal the wounds caused by their separation and figure out what brotherhood and family truly mean before one of their countless enemies kills them all,” per the official description.
The show marked one of the first major roles for Michelle after winning the 2023 Best Actress Oscar for her part in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Praised by critics for her incredible performance, The Brothers Sun started off as a hit.
It had strong ratings in its first few weeks but reportedly struggled to reach a wider audience.
While it peaked at No. 2 during its first five weeks on the platform streaming site, its weekly views remained below 7 million.
As a result, it most likely fell short of earning a renewal for a second season.
