JUNIOR 4NCL (Nations Chess League) Round 4 report
JUNIOR 4NCL (Nations Chess League)
Thurs 29th Feb 24 – 6:00pm
Season 9 – Round 4
Division Three – Group A
A joint venture between Castlehill Chess Club Dundee and Dundee Chess Club.
RESULT
Chess Rising Stars 2 (1204) 5 – 3 (954) Dundee City Juniors
As usual, Dundee City Juniors were out graded on all but one board, and by 210 points team wise! The score line was close, but the better team deserved to win the match, but not without our juniors making them work for it.
When you see all of the juniors Lichess grades, they bear no reflection on the published grades used in the 4NCL Online! While the chess from Dundee Juniors did not match the last time they played, they were up against a higher standard of juniors which made it a lot tougher!
Board 1: Matthew Hunter is improving in leaps and bounds, but not only the way he plays his chess, but more importantly the way he is thinking about his chess and the fact he is excellent at time-management!
Fantastic performance and a deserved 2-0 win!
Board 2: Josh Dickson, won one, and lost one this time. Josh has improved a lot over the last year, but is still a little bit inconsistent. He also plays a bit too fast, but he has the talent to move up the grades, once he slows down (time-management), thinks about the whole board, including his own plans, and his opponents plans, then he will be on Matthew’s level.
Board 3: Noah Dickson, to be fair, did not have his best night and lost both matches, but that`s not the whole picture! Noah, despite not really showing a great interest in chess until recently, has shown, especially OTB, he has what it takes to move up the levels and be a very good chess player if he wants to. If Noah does put in the work and has the drive, Josh, better watch his back as his younger brother, just might wave to him as he shoots past him! Only saying?
Board 4: Haoqi Liu, has played better (lost 2-0), but it was, as it will always be, the Haoqi way! The strange thing is, after this, Haoqi played in the OTB George Pyrich later that night at Castlehill and was outstanding, getting some great results against good players! Haoqi can play chess, but only the Haoqi way!
Tough night at the office against very good opponents! Still, there were a lot of pluses to take out of this, and we move forward to our next match. Congratulations to Chess Rising Stars 2 and we wish them well for the rest of the tournament!
