I’ve got the best-kept secret for lawns – I do it before spring hits and it stops weeds from ever popping up
A GARDENING expert has revealed his secret to preventing weeds from springing up in your outdoor areas.
He makes sure to do it before the weather warms up and it stops them in their tracks.
Chris Lazo (@bermudadad) shares lawn care tips online to make your yard the talk of the town.
He shared his method to get ahead of pesky weeds before they become a problem in a TikTok video.
“Pre-emergent is the best-kept secret among lawn aficionados,” he said.
“While the average person only relies on post-emergent weed killer to deal with their weeds, the rest of us put down a pre-emergent ahead of time.”
At the time, it was cold and rainy with no visible weeds yet, but he knew that his soil temperature was consistently hitting 55 degrees, which is “ripe for weeds to start growing.”
Chris tried out the Dimension Plus Lawn Fertilizer by The Andersons Home and Garden, which is currently out of stock but retails for $79.88.
“I’ve heard great things about it and can’t wait to see the effects!” he wrote in the video caption.
He previously used Barricade but said it’s “good to switch up active ingredients now and then so weeds don’t develop a resistance.”
The Dimension pre-emergent has another top ingredient called Dithiopyr, which will tackle the job at hand.
He’ll apply 3.5 pounds per every 1,000 square feet of yard.
“My yard is 4,792 square feet, 4,792 times 3.5, divided by 1,000, equals a little bit below 17 pounds,” he explained.
Per the product recommendation, he’ll apply 8.5 pounds in the morning as the soil is around 55 degrees and then the remaining 8.5 pounds of the solution when it hits around 70 degrees.
“If all goes according to plan, then the only thing growing in my yard this summer will be Bermuda grass,” he said.
A viewer asked if it’s safe to use around children and house pets.
“If you follow the instructions and keep pets and kids off the lawn until it gets watered in, it is safe to use,” Chris replied.
Viewers appreciated his helpful gardening advice.
“Just watched this video and went straight to my yard to check my soil temp. Now I’m done with my pre-emergent!” one commented.
“Hell yeah. I’m in Wendell and I want the same thing. Finally, someone I can follow along with,” another wrote.
“Eighty percent of the battle is fought with pre-emergents,” a man said.
