The guy was hobbling all over the shop for a while before the goal, I think it’s harsh to question desire or toughness when his body was clearly breaking down during the game.

he put himself out there when clearly not 100 per cent fit. over the years he's not been van dijk but what do we expect? the bloke has tried for us and has had some very good games this season. the optics for their goal were not good but he was pushed in the back. nobody has slated Stansfield for that horrendous miss. that would have put us in control

We paid a ridiculous amount for a bang average centre half, who switches off at key moments, and is out muscled too often given the size of him.

£3m wasn't it? That's not down to the player of course, but I'd suggest that over 7 years it hasn't been that bad a fee. We've spent more, pound for pound, on worse players, I imagine. They've all been average, haven't they? It's not that often that he's outmuscled - it's just that it's noticed when he is, and I think he's pretty steady in that respect. He's got to have something about him for the last two or three hundred managers (well, it seems like that) that we've had to keep selecting him. I'm not suggesting that he's great, but he's nowhere near the devil incarnate that some make him out to be.
