‘Had no idea!’ Three little-known uses for washing up liquid including the emergency hack that will leave you mind-blown
MAKING the most out of your cleaning products is a great way to save time and money.
but did you know you can use your washing up liquid for more than just cleaning your dishes?
Cleaning whizz Mallory, who posts tips and tricks on Instagram recently shared three alterative uses for dish soap and her hacks and leaving people mind-blown.
From removing set-in stains to using as an ice pack, there are more uses than you might think.
Unclog a toilet
“This happens more often than I wish it did. But a cup of dish soap in the commode will turn that porcelain hole into a slip and slide,” the cleaning whizz explained.
All you need to do is squirt some washing up liquid in the bowl and leave it to sit for roughly 30 minutes to one hour.
“That slip and slide toilet will just flush away magically within a minute or two. If it doesn’t work on the first round, it might take a round two to get your number two down,” Mallory added.
DIY ice pack
You don’t have to hold a bag of frozen peas to your body when you injure yourself, you can make an ice pack using a Ziploc bag and some washing up liquid.
Simply half fill the plastic bag with the dish soap and wait for it to freeze.
“It freezes into a semi solid state, making it perfect to hold on booboos or puffy eyes.
“Not only does it form to whatever you hold it to, but it stays colder longer than ice and doesn’t have as much condensation,” Mallory explained.
And the best part is you can just pop it back in the freezer when you’re done with it.
Remove stains
This one might be a bit more obvious, but if you haven’t tried using dish soap to get rid of stains you’re missing out.
Before you pop the stained item of clothing in the wash, squirt on the soap and scrub away.
Then wash it as normal in the washing machine and the stain should lift right out.
“Please be mindful of the fabric you’re scrubbing. I’ve only tested mainly on cotton and jeans because that’s what we live in at my house,” Mallory noted.
