Montgomery Reviews Rangers Defeat
Nick Montgomery was proud of his players’ effort as nine-man Hibs fell to defeat against Rangers in the Scottish Cup Quarter-Finals.
Rangers took the lead from the penalty spot in the first half before grabbing a late second, in a game that was filled with controversial incidents.
When speaking after the game, our Head Coach reviewed the match.
“I’m proud of the boys’ performance. In patches we were good and caused them problems, especially at the beginning of the second half and we were unfortunate not to get back into the game at that point. We were lacking that final pass or a bit more composure in the final third.
“Getting a man reduced hampered us; I haven’t seen the incident, Jordan is on a yellow card, I know he’s tried to block him running down the line, but because I haven’t seen it, I can’t really comment. Down to 10 men we created some opportunities and were unfortunate not to score.
“I’ve got to be careful what I say. I can’t say I’m not frustrated by some decisions on the night. I thought it was very unfortunate really, some of the decisions that went against us, against a side with Rangers’ quality. We’ve been talking about unfortunate decision going against us week in, week out, and hopefully that’ll change at some point.
“Up until late in the game we limited them to very little. Chris Cadden was outstanding in his first start. It’s been a long road back for him.
“I’m proud of the boys’ effort and disappointed to go out of the cup. The fans were outstanding today; they deserved better.
“I’m really disappointed not to go through to the semi-final and thought we showed enough tonight before we went down to nine men. I felt like we created enough problems to take that game to full-time or extra-time to make it a proper cup tie.
“There was a lot of incidents, a lot of drama – a lot of it unnecessary – but we’ve got to pick the boys up now.
“Hopefully Martin Boyle is ok, and we go again on Wednesday.”
