The King’s video message is typical of selfless service he continues to give ‘to the best of his ability’
King of hope
WHAT a joy to see both the King and the Princess of Wales back in the public eye in spite of their health problems.
The Mother’s Day photo of a beaming Princess Kate with children Charlotte, Louis and George was a delight and a reassuring sign that her recovery from abdominal surgery is going well.
The King’s video message, to be broadcast for the Commonwealth Day Ceremony at Westminster Abbey today, is typical of the selfless service he continues to give “to the best of his ability”, just as his late mother always did.
Stoically making light of his recent cancer diagnosis, His Majesty will stress the importance of shared friendship and the strength we have in our diversity.
He urges all the countries of the Commonwealth to work together to build resilience, respond to global challenges and find ways to heal divisions and solve inequalities and injustice.
The Queen and the Prince of Wales, along with other royals, will be there in person at the service to support that message of unity.
At a time of sickening wars abroad and extremists stoking divisions at home, our Royal Family remains a beacon of light, offering comfort and steadfastness not just for those in Britain but for people around the world.

IT has taken years longer than it should have but finally, after constant campaigning by The Sun, a pumpwatch website will go live by the end of the year.
It will allow motorists to check real-time petrol prices across the country.
With pump prices updated every 30 minutes, there will be no hiding which fuel retailers are taking hard-pressed motorists for a ride.
For too long the big petrol sellers have got away with pushing pump prices up immediately when wholesale prices go up, but taking an age to lower prices when the wholesale prices fall.
Soon it will be crystal clear who is offering the cheapest fuel, and who is profiteering.
The Sun will be keeping a close watch.
Home truths
SOMETHING smells odd in Angela Rayner’s account of where her main residence was for the first five years of her marriage to ex-husband Mark.
She insists she did not live with him at his house, where their two children together were registered, but lived in her own former council property so did not owe capital gains tax on the profit when she sold it.
A former neighbour at Mark’s house has now branded her “a f***ing liar”.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and his embattled deputy need to come clean.
