DC, Maryland and Virginia continue not-so easy-breezy start to the workweek
All these wind patterns and the D.C. area chose to be gusty.
The National Weather Service is continuing its Wind Alert through 5 p.m. Monday following Sunday’s blustery weather and wind chills dipping down into the 20s through the early morning hours.
“There could be sustained winds anywhere from 25 to 30 mph in parts of the area as a strong storm system out to the north and east is bringing in the gusty winds,” 7News First Alert Meteorologist Jordan Evans told WTOP.
Accumulating snow persists along the Alleghenies tonight where warnings/advisories remain in effect. For those north of I-66/U.S. 50, many are seeing snowflakes as snow showers drop down from PA. Thankfully, this brush with whipping winds isn’t expected to last for too much longer.
“Damaging winds will be possible through Monday afternoon before tapering off. A warming trend begins Monday, and by Friday, highs will be in the mid to even upper 70s across some areas,” the National Weather Service said in its forecast Sunday evening.
Since the storm began blowing through the area, strong winds have knocked down trees and caused power outages for thousands around the region. Gusts also sparked flight delays averaging two hours at Dulles International Airport, a wind restriction for drivers along the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and brought reported snow squalls to the D.C. area.
After we make it through Monday, the weather gurus at 7News predict highs in the 60s and 70s before a chance for less mild weather reenters the forecast.
