Coronation Street fans demand unlikable character is axed for good after mysterious disappearance
CORONATION Street fans have demanded an unlikable character is axed for good after their mysterious disappearance.
The ITV soap recently saw Lauren Bolton go missing from her flat after weeks of receiving calls from her mystery boyfriend.
Before she left, she revealed her bruised body to friend Bobby Crawford, and the fact no one can find her now has left Weatherfield residents deeply concerned.
However, some Coronation Street fans are happy the character is temporarily off their screens, and would like that to remain a permanent situation.
Writing on a soap fan forum about what could have happened to Lauren, one viewer replied: “As long as it means we don’t have to see her again, I don’t care.
“I have no interest in her character and the longer she’s away the better.”
Another added: “I wouldn’t be bothered if she stayed missing tbh. Corrie has too many pointless characters on top of long-term dead wood.
A third tweeted: “I’m really, really confused on why they chose Lauren for this. A character that…wasn’t even much of a character anyway and defined solely as a victim. She had potential, but now that’s on pause until she returns.
“If you’re storyline a long term disappearance wouldn’t it make sense to use a character that viewers are already invested in and that has purpose on the Street, that way their lack of presence is felt?
“I can’t understand why they’d refuse to develop Lauren and then give her this expecting her absence to be a compelling emotional thread.”
Meanwhile a fellow viewer felt the fact Roy Cropper has been accused of being involved in Lauren’s disappearance – after being one of the last to see her in person – is pointless.
They wrote: “There’s no story here. It’s a plot with a conclusion we already know and a story done multiple times now: Roy’s innocent.
“It really feels like they already ran out of steam or narrative for this story and threw in the safe option of pointless police matters. Bobby going after Roy, Max going after Daniel again…the type of story we get every single year now.
“Maybe don’t spend the time on this and instead use the time to either genuinely search for Lauren or do some work to make characters like Bobby or Max more likeable so that I actually care what they think about this situation?
“At this point, I’m hoping Lauren stays gone and everyone associated with her disappears as well.”
Another raged: “The thing is about Lauren’s disappearance, she’s just not a likable character so straight off the bat the writers have shot themselves well and truly in the foot with this pointless storyline.
“But to make matters worse they are putting a legendary character like Roy Cropper in the firing line as the prime suspect with her abduction. Ridiculous idea.”
But others didn’t agree, with one writing: “I’m interested in where this will go next. It feels new for Corrie, I don’t recall a story line with a character ‘mysteriously’ vanishing before.”
A fellow fan of the storyline added: “I don’t understand the dislike for this story line.
“Someone has disappeared and we have no idea what happened. Usually, like with Keanu in EE we’ve seen their exit and its just the characters who are in the dark. This isn’t a story that’s done year in year out.”
