Kate breaks cover for first time since world lost its mind over edited picture
Kate Middleton has been pictured inside a car with Prince William leaving Windsor Castle today.
The Princess of Wales, 42, who has been recovering from abdominal surgery in Windsor, was photographed with her husband in a black Land Rover.
Kensington Palace confirmed that Kate had left Windsor in a car with the Prince of Wales as he was being driven to London for a Commonwealth Day service.
Kate hasn’t been seen in public since she had surgery nearly two months ago, stirring speculation about her well-being and, at times, wild conspiracy theories.
The Duchess of Cambridge posted an official photograph of herself and her three children, George, Charlotte and Louis, on Mother’s Day.
But news agencies sent an advisory out that evening, determining the picture had been edited – something Kate would admit to doing today.
William was spotted alone walking into Westminster Abbey, around an hour’s drive from Windsor, this afternoon heading into the venue for the Commonwealth Day services.
He spoke with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal as they waited at the Great West Door.
After Edward greeted the prince with a pat on the back, the three had a conversation before Camilla approached them.
William was seen to say ‘hello’ to his stepmother as he moved forward to kiss her on both cheeks. They smiled and chatted as they waited for the national anthem to play.
King Charles, who is unable to attend, will speak at the event in a pre-recorded video.
Last week, the celebrity gossip website TMZ posted a grainy paparazzi photograph of Kate riding in a car driven by her mother around Windsor.
She has been recovering in Adelaide Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Her Mother’s Day photograph was taken in Windsor by William, according to Kensington Palace, though several editing errors in the image raised alarms among news agencies.
The Associated Press said the image had been ‘manipulated in a way that does not meet AP’s photo standards’.
Kate, amid even more fervent speculation about her, admitted in a statement she had doctored the photograph somewhat.
‘Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,’ she said in a post on X.
‘I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.’
