I’m a stylist – the £5.50 shampoo that’s brilliant for hair growth & why the seasons could be to blame for your shedding
IF you feel as though your hair barely grows, or you suffer with shedding, you’ve come to the right place.
It turns out that approximately 6.5 million men and 8 million women in the UK are currently affected by hair loss, but now, Fabulous can reveal a £5.50 shampoo that’s a brilliant and very effective treatment.
We spoke to Katy Grimshaw, founder of the Spectrum One Hair Restoration Clinic & Spectrum One Hair Extensions, to get her thoughts on hair loss, as well as the hero product that she recommends.
Katy told Fabulous: “Of course we always recommend salon quality products in the clinic, however we would recommend Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo if you’re looking for a high street alternative at a lower price point. It’s great for hair growth!
“Alpecin Shampoo is our top pick from the high street, but I would also recommend anything that can help to hydrate the scalp.”
If you fancy giving this Alpecin Shampoo a try, you can buy it for just £5.50 from Superdrug.
It’s a hair loss treatment that you shampoo into your hair everyday and is available to order without a prescription.
It works by energising and activating hair growth at the roots and not only does it stimulate your hair follicles, but it also removes dandruff too.
As well as this, Katy shared: “A hydrating serum paired with massage is really great for the scalp and hair growth if you’re on a budget.
“I’d also pick up some Biotin which is a supplement that you can find on the high street.
“We use Glowwa in-salon which we highly recommend, but a plain Biotin supplement can be a good low-budget alternative.”
When it comes to hair massage, Katy continued: “Hair massage really does work! Anything that stimulates the scalp and hair cuticles and getting the blood flowing is going to be positive if you’re tackling hair loss.
“I would incorporate it into your at-home routine, whether that be with a pre-hair wash deep scalp treatment, or just really getting in there with a good massage when you’re shampooing at home; it can make all the difference.”
‘It can also be seasonal’
Katy opened up about hair loss and explained why it’s such a big problem at the moment, as she added: “One of the main reasons that we set up the Spectrum One Hair Restoration Clinic was because a lot of my clients, especially women who’re 40+ are perimenopausal, are already going through the menopause, or suffering side effects of HRT.
“A lot of their feedback was that they were experiencing a lot of hair thinning specifically around the hairline.
“This has always been an issue for women, however as it’s becoming more socially acceptable to talk about and discuss menopause, and the side effects women experience because of it, I think ‘hair loss’ as a topic is more commonly spoken about now.
“Then on the gents’ side we were having a lot of enquiries about hair transplants as they’re also experiencing hair loss as they age, but more focused around the crown.
“Aside from medical issues it can also be seasonal, for example a lot of people are experiencing ‘winter shed’ at the moment.
“No matter the cause, we’ve seen first hand how hair loss of any kind can really affect people’s mental health so we wanted to help these clients.
“Both women and men feel their best when they can look their best, and that’s not vanity, it’s human nature.
“When you can’t present in the way you want to because your hair’s thinning around the front and you’re frightened to use products or heat style it, it can mean you end up opting for styles and cuts that really don’t feel like ‘you’, but you just make do.”

Not only this, but Katy also shared: “Many women in particular will end up cutting their hair short during menopause, not because they want to, or they feel empowered doing so, but because they’re fighting hair thinning and it feels like the only choice they have.
“We want them to know it’s not the only choice and there are professional treatment options on the market now that can help!”
