EDUCATION DISTRICT IV HOSTS 2023/2024 MUSIC, SPORTS FESTIVAL.
Education District IV recently held its annual Music and Sports Festival in a glamorous and grand style at Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammar School in Randle Surulere, Lagos.
Tutor-General/ Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusegun Osinaike, in his address at the event, said the primary objective of the festival was to promote and exhibit the various talents within District IV while showcasing students who excel not only academically but also in realms such as entertainment and sports.
He highlighted the significant achievements of the flourishing District, adding that the top athletes in each sports category would receive a cash prize of #25,000 each, along with the opportunity to participate in local and international sporting events/trials.
Why expressing gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for creating an enabling environment for sports to thrive in schools by establishing sports centres and facilities in Public Schools, the Tutor-General also lauded the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Ali Balogun, for his unwavering support towards education, particularly in District IV.
Representatives from the three zones of the District – Apapa, Mainland, and Surulere – competed in various athletic events such as the 100m and 200m races, high jump, and more, much to the delight of spectators and dignitaries in attendance.
After an intense competition, Mainland secured the 4th position with 2 Gold, 4 Silver, and 5 Bronze medals. Apapa Zone clinched the 3rd position with 3 Gold, 6 Silver, and 3 Bronze Medals while Surulere I earned the 2nd position with 7 Gold, 4 Silver, and 7 Bronze medals. However, Surulere II emerged as the overall champion with 8 Gold, 6 Silver, and 5 Bronze medals.
Notable dignitaries present at the event included: Honourable Desmond Eliot, Member Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Surulere Constituency; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic & Secondary Education, Mr. Bolaji Abayomi; Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye; Tutor- General/Permanent Secretary Education District IV. Mrs. Shereefat Yusuff and Chairman of SUBEB, Honourable Hakeem Shittu, represented by Mr. Amusan Oluwatobi among others.
