‘100% committed ‘ – Journalist provides update on Spurs star’s contract renewal
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Heung-min Son will be happy to agree a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur, but he could force the club’s hand and get a better deal amid interest from other teams.
The Spurs skipper has been on fire this season, delivering 14 goals and eight assists in his first season as the club’s captain (Transfermarkt) to help push Ange Postecoglou‘s side into contention for a top-four finish.
However, Heung-min Son‘s contract expires next summer. It is thought Son is ‘excited’ to get a new deal arranged and the club are ready to step up those negotiations sooner rather than later (HITC).
Son could use Saudi interest to get a better Spurs deal
Son may be ready to sign on the dotted line for Spurs, but Ben Jacobs believes the South Korean star could use reported interest from Saudi Arabia to push for an even better offer from Tottenham this summer.
Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “The summer is going to be quite useful I would have thought to Son, if he does want to start contract negotiations with Spurs, due to the fact that Saudi clubs will almost certainly try. Even if it’s believed that there’s a high confidence that he’ll remain at Spurs.
“But if that offer is tabled, you can use that as leverage, which is naturally very helpful. I know that Victor Osimhen, when he had three offers from Saudi Arabia that just kept going up and up and up, was also able to use that as leverage to get his extension package at Napoli.
“So Son will have some suitors but there’s no suggestion at this point that he’s anything other than 100% committed to Spurs.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I don’t imagine Son will need any negotiation tactics to secure a nice new deal at Spurs. At this point, with everything he has done and will continue to do for the club, we should pay him whatever he wants and lock him down until he’s ready to retire.
