John Legend Shared the Cutest Picture of His Pre-Oscar Helper Baby Esti — & Some People Are Really Mad About It
John Legend looked fabulous at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last night in Beverly Hills. He wore a sleek black suit with a bowtie and wide leg pants as he walked the red carpet with his wife Chrissy Teigen. But none of it would have been possible without the help of his 13-month-old daughter Esti!
The “All of Me” singer shared an adorable behind-the-scenes photo from his hotel room on Sunday. “Ready,” he captioned the cute snap, where he is dressed in his white button-down shirt, bow tie, jacket, and knee-high black socks with no pants. He holds his little girl’s hand as she smiles, looking Oscars-ready herself in a precious pink dress.
Despite how sweet this daddy-daughter duo is, people were calling into question his parenting skills for one main reason: he was walking around with no pants on.
The Comments
“????????♀️ as a mom of 3 toddlers why the heck would you do this ???” one person wrote. “Keep your babies innocence intact, your a grown adult walking around with no pants on ??? Common !!!!” As a reminder, nothing is showing in the photo, and he definitely could have been wearing underwear. So why is it such a big deal that his 1-year-old seems him pantsless? (Hint: it’s not!)
“Creepy,” someone else wrote. “I love u John, but not a good idea,” another person wrote.
One commenter said, “Ok John — you didn’t think this pic through clearly. Folks get all kinds of crazy ideas … WTF were you thinking? Not cool or cute at all. Just saying. Never seen this kind of vibe … before! Hummmmm??? Just saying … things that make you go Hummmm??? Peace & Love ❤️”
Other people shared comments that were more light-hearted. Like “Me at home being a remote worker ????????,” one person said. Another quipped, “You forgot your shoes. Otherwise, you’re good to go.”
And probably the most relatable comment of all: “When your kids need you, they don’t care about pants.” Aint that the truth?!
Parental Nakedness
To be clear, Legend was not naked (or even close to it!) in this photo. However, if he was, he wouldn’t be the only celebrity with a more open household.
Last month, Dax Shepard shared that his daughters Lincoln, 10, and Delta, 9, who he shares with wife Kristen Bell, visit him during his morning “poopy time.”
“The girls start coming in and out,” Shepard said on an episode of his Armchair Expert podcast. “They sit and talk to me, like a foot away from me, and it’s terrible in there.”
He then asked his guest, Bradley Cooper, if his daughter, Lea, 6, cares about seeing him going to the bathroom. “Do you find that your daughter doesn’t care at all?” Shepard asked Cooper.
“Yeah, no, no. We talk where I’m on the toilet, she’s in the bathtub; that’s sort of the go-to,” he responded. Later, Shepard shared that he and his family are “naked all the time,” and Cooper said that he was “totally” comfortable with nudity at home. To each their own!
Addressing the Controversy
Legend seemingly addressed the controversy when he shared another photo of him taken at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. “Ok I wore pants. Boy did I wear pants,” he cheekily captioned the post.
“Handsome as always & most people probably got it that you all were getting ready and thought it was cute!” one person commented. “Don’t worry about people who read too much into posts and don’t have a sense of humor (everyone needs to lighten up at times and enjoy a laugh!) ????????????????”
It was an innocent picture, and people who are over-reacting need to pause and take a hard look at themselves.
