SAN RAFAEL
Mart clears hurdle
for sales of liquor
A city zoning administrator has conditionally approved a permit application to sell liquor at the 7-Eleven store in the Canal neighborhood.
The store on Medway Road, which is open 24 hours a day, already sells beer and wine except during the period from 2 to 6 a.m.
“The additional spirits will be restricted to a small display shelf (approx. 4 ft. x 5 ft.) in a locked case that is only accessible to store employees,” city planner Renee Nickenig wrote in a staff report.
The zoning administrator held a hearing on the permit application on Feb. 28.
SAUSALITO
County adds funds
for housing project
The Board of Supervisors has allocated another $500,000 in matching funds to convert a Sausalito residence into housing for homeless people and city employees.
The property’s late owner, Dorothy Gibson, bequeathed the 1,200-square-foot home at 429 1/2 Johnson St. to the city. Gibson, an author and social worker, died in 2019 at the age of 95.
“With costs now anticipated to exceed the original $305,332 for the Dorothy Gibson House Renovation Project, the County agrees to match up to an additional $500,000 to ensure completion of said project for a total of two units to
be made available, including provision of job training opportunity for part time or entry level employment of occupants who were formerly homeless,” Assistant County Executive Daniel Eilerman wrote in a report to the supervisors.
The board approved the expenditure on March 5.
