Monty: It’s A Real Sickener
“It’s a real sickener” said Nick Montgomery as his side fell to a late 2-2 draw against Ross County in the cinch Premiership.
In the 98th minute Yan Dhanda scored a late equaliser, in controversial circumstances, to stop Hibs coming away from the Global Energy Stadium with all three points.
When speaking after the game, Montgomery gave his thoughts on the performance.
“The first half was a really scrappy game. We totally dominated the second half, got into the lead, and then, yeah, seven minutes were added on at the end of the game.
“I think it’s very clear to everyone that the Ross County player heads it out for a throw-in. At that point we switch off expecting a throw-in, which is rightly ours, and we switched off; you can’t do that even if the decision is completely wrong. You have to stop the cross coming into the box.
“I think there’s extra time on top of the added on time when we conceded the equaliser; it’s a real sickener.
“I think the players’ effort was there. The travelling fans were outstanding tonight and we deserved to take three points. It’s really hard to digest that one.”
Ross County scored twice from three shots on target, and our Head Coach was particularly disappointed with the goals we conceded.
“We knew they were going to put crosses into the box and we have to stop that,” said Montgomery. “The first was a cross that came into the box, and it was a really scrappy goal to concede.”
“We showed massive character in the second half, and we played well in difficult conditions. We put them under a lot of pressure and scored two really good goals.
“To concede like we did in added time of added time of a lot of added time. We should’ve seen the game out.
“I shouldn’t be here talking about an incident at the end. I should be talking about taking three points at a difficult place against a team that’s fighting. It’s two points dropped.”
