Sports briefs: Marin Catholic baseball takes down San Rafael
Carson Davis worked 5.2 innings, allowing two hits and one earned run as the Marin Catholic baseball team won a 3-1 pitcher’s duel against San Rafael on Wednesday.
Davis struck out six before Cooper Mitchell came in for the final 1.1 innings to earn the save. MC (4-2, 2-2 MCAL) was limited to five hits, with two from Hunter Valla. Gaetano Polizzotti, Toby Richards, and Valla had RBIs.
San Rafael (1-4, 0-2) had hits from Lazio Clements and Dylan Thorpe.
The Wildcats and Bulldogs are set to face off again on Friday in San Rafael. Longtime San Rafael baseball coach Keith Fraser, who died in January, will be honored during that game.
- Alex Tavano had two hits, four RBIs, and three runs as San Domenico took advantage of six errors in a 16-9 win against Making Waves Academy on Wednesday. The Panthers (2-1) committed four errors of their own as both teams were limited to seven hits. Will Rothstein had three RBIs for San Domenico and Oliver Bennett drove in a pair.
College softball
Shelby Keltner hit a grand slam and notched the 500th strikeout of her career as Dominican won the first game of a doubleheader split against Ca Poly Humboldt on Wednesday.
Keltner’s slam gave the Penguins a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Dominican went on to a 9-2 victory. Olivia Lee had three hits in the game while Keltner added two hits.
Dominican (14-12) dropped the second game 6-2.
Prep track
Marin Academy sophomore Max Dutro set personal records Tuesday as he won the shot put and placed third in the discus in a Bay Counties League meet.
Wildcats sophomore Grace Bramble finished second in the long jump, and senior Juliet Reichardt was second in the high jump, as they both set personal bests in those events.
