‘It’s amazing’ people rave about £11 Wickes buy that will get grubby patios sparkling in no time without a jet washer
IF your patio is looking a bit grubby and you want to get it sparkling in no time, you’ve come to the right place.
And particularly if you can’t afford to splash the cash on an expensive jet washer, don’t worry, we’ve got just what you need.
One woman took to social media, to ask cleaning fans for advice on how to clean her patio slabs.
Posting on Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It, a private Facebook group with a whopping 232,700 members, Sharon LP Cutler asked: “Has anyone got any tips on what to use to clean patio slabs?”
Cleaning enthusiasts and Mrs Hinch fans raced to the comments to share their recommendations, with a huge variety of different solutions offered.
While some suggested using household items and cleaning products, many recommended an £11 buy from Wickes, Patio Magic, which they described as ‘amazing stuff’.
One person said: “Patio Magic. Did mine a few months back and the green hasn’t come back.
“Just apply with a watering can, I brush it about a bit and two days later it’s all clean.”
Another added: “Patio Magic is amazing.”
A third commented: “Deffo Patio Magic, it’s amazing stuff.
“You don’t see it straight away, it takes a few days or so.”
If you fancy giving Patio Magic a try, you can buy a 2.5l bottle of the stuff from Wickes now, for just £11.
It is a concentrated disinfectant for the easy treatment, removal and prevention of green mould, algae and lichen on hard surfaces. It is also suitable for indoor use and as a pre-fungicidal wash.
It kills green mould and algae typically within two to four days and continues to gently clean the treated surfaces over the following weeks and months.

‘It really is magic’
Not only this, but many others suggested another brilliant product – Wet and Forget – which is £18 from Wickes.
One gardening guru shared: “I bought Wet and Forget. It comes tomorrow. Google it. It seems to be the top product of its type.
“Gets amazing reviews. Hope it doesn’t disappoint.”
A second chimed in: “Wet and Forget… brilliant, read all the reviews, it really is magic.”
Whilst someone else claimed: “Wet and Forget lasts six months to a year, great stuff.
“Wouldn’t use anything else now.”
Wet and Forget is a mould, lichen and algae remover and according to the brand, is ‘the outdoor cleaning solution you’ve been looking for’.
It effectively removes contaminants with no water washing or scrubbing required – you simply apply the product to the surface and forget about it.
The formula has an unlimited shelf life and is completely free from aggressive chemicals such as bleach and ammonia that can damage surfaces.
‘Looks mint’
But if you don’t have time to pop to the shops or are looking for an even cheaper solution – you may already have the answer in your cleaning cupboard.
One cleaning whizz advised: “Just put cheap bleach on mine, leave it for 30 minutes and wash it down. Looks mint.”
Whilst another recommended: “Bleach. We had lots of black spots and green algae on ours last year. A neighbour told me to bleach it so I did.
“Brushed it around. Left for 30 mins or so and a rinse off with the hose pipe. The results were amazing!!”

However, whilst using bleach to clean your patio will provide a little extra “oomph” over soapy water and can help you get rid of moss, algae and weeds, there are three things you must be aware of before using it.
You’ll need to make sure that there’s no run-off of the bleach onto any surrounding plant life, as plants that come into contact with bleach will die.
Secondly, bleach isn’t suitable for man-made concrete slabs – only natural paving stones. Bleach will fade artificial slabs over time.
Finally, when using bleach, you’ll need to wear protective clothing to stop the product from getting on your skin.
