My 3p hack removes burn marks and limescale off your iron… and it even works on your clothes too
WE have all experienced this annoying moment: you are running late for work and go to iron your clothes – only to find it is covered in burnt on residue.
Before you bin your iron though, there is a simple way to get it clean with a common painkiller lurking in your bathroom cabinet.
If you are questioning whether or not this hack actually works, this DIY method has been tried and tested by the nation’s cleaning whizzes.
Rather than gatekeeping this money saving hack though, Facebook users have been raving about it in the Mrs Hinch‘s Cleaning Group and urging others to try it out.
It’s after one member of the group revealed that they’d been struggling with stubborn burn marks on their iron which would not budge.
Keen to save a bit of money and keep their iron going a a little longer, they asked: “Can anyone recommend how to get this off my iron please?
“Usually I’d just replace to iron but with the cost of living these days I thought I’d try and use it for longer.”
Whilst plenty of us would have spent hours scrubbing away at the stains, members of the Facebook group had a far better solution.
“A paracetamol believe it or not ! Rub the tablet on the patch and it will come off,” suggested one domestic goddess in the comments, leaving others in shock.
Another agreed adding: “Paracetamol on a warm iron mind your fingers…use tweezers.”
Though it sounds too good to be true, this works because of the silica found in most paracetamol tablets which acts as a mild abrasive.
For those tempted to try this hack for themselves, you’ll need to make sure your iron is off but warm to the touch to get the best results.
You can then use a pair of tweezers to pick up a pill and rub it over the dirty areas, then allow your iron to cool completely.
Once this is done, you can wipe the household appliance with a damp cloth to leave it gleaming.
Not only will this clever cleaning hack save your iron, paracetamol will help get stubborn stains out of your clothes too.
Simply crush a little of the pills and mix with with a little water before applying to stubborn sweat stains for an extra cleaning boost.
If you weren’t already sold, this hack works just as well as branded cleaning products but costs just a fraction of the price!
You can pick up a 16 tablet pack of parcetmol at B&M for 50p and for thoses that haven’t done the maths – that works out just 3p per clean.
This is a steal considering that products like The Pink Stuff can cost between £2-£4 per pot but produce similarly cleaning power.
With these nifty hacks, you’ll get through you laundry pile in no time at all.
