Preview – Bohemians vs Derry City
Bohemians vs Derry City – Friday 15th March 2024 – KO 7.45pm – Dalymount Park
SSE Airtricity Premier Division
Derry City will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the new season at Dalymount Park on Friday night as they face a Bohemian side that have this week parted ways with manager, Declan Devine.
The hosts started their campaign brightly enough with a draw against Sligo and a win over St Pats, before suffering back-to-back defeats to Drogheda and Shelbourne.
The North Dublin venue has been a reasonably happy hunting ground over the past number of years and the Candystripes are unbeaten on their last six visits there.
That won’t count for too much in terms of Ruaidhri Higgins’ plans for this weekend however, and the City manager insisted that his side needed to be at the top of their game if they hoped to pick up three points.
“I’m already tired talking about how competitive this league is and it’ll be more of the same this weekend.
“We’ve a decent record at Dalymount and it’s a venue we enjoy playing at, however unless we approach the game properly and put in a committed performance then we won’t get a favourable result.
“There’s usually always a reaction and a bit of a bounce when team’s change manager as well, but it’ll be up to us to deal with that.”
Pat Hoban’s hat-trick against Waterford last week made it six goals from five games for Derry’s Number 9 and Higgins was glowing in his assessment of his striker.
“Listen, he’s not only a brilliant player but he’s a fantastic person to have around the club as well.
“He sets very high standards for himself but he also knows what it takes to be successful in this league and he’s going to bring out the best in the players around him.”
The visitors have had a number of injury concerns in recent weeks and the Limavady man gave an update ahead of Friday’s match.
“Cameron Dummigan will miss the game but hopefully the upcoming International break will mean he’ll not be far away after that.
“Michael Duffy, Adam O’Reilly and Will Patching have been carrying minor knocks but Patrick McEleney has again trained all week, so we’ll see where we’re at on Friday morning.
“Other than that, it’s the same panel of players that we’ve been working off recently.
“Games between the teams have usually been entertaining affairs in the past and it’s one we’re looking forward to.”
The match kicks off at 7.45 and will be streamed live om LOITV.
