Homes Under The Hammer legend breaks silence on show return as BBC hit celebrates 20 years on screens
HOMES Under The Hammer legend Lucy Alexander has broken her silence on a potential return to the iconic show.
Lucy launched the programme alongside her TV counterpart Martin Roberts in 2003 and went on to work on the series for a whopping 13 years.
The TV starlet became a household name thanks to her run on the daytime favourite and left fans devastated when it was confirmed that she would be walking away from the show in 2016.
At the time, Lucy told the BBC how wanting to take up a commercial endorsement away from the Beeb as well as other projects had been the major contributing factor in her decision to quit.
Although repeats starring Lucy have aired regularly since then and even having a cameo appearance in the show’s 20th anniversary specials, Lucy has yet to return to the show full-time.
Now, in an exclusive interview with The Sun, Lucy has admitted she would “never say never” to a return but affirmed it was not currently in the pipeline.
Instead, she had swapped property auctions in dreary England for sun-soaked apartment across the globe on Channel 4‘s A Place in the Sun.
Reflecting on her time on Homes Under The Hammer and her new TV role, Lucy told us: “I am having a rather lovely time at the moment filming A Place in the Sun but I am really enjoying having worked on two iconic daytime shows.
“There is always a place in my heart for Homes Under The Hammer because I started that show and I was [on] the first episode that went out with Martin.”
“We did it together for 13 years so yeah it does have a special place in my heart because I do love property and I do love old and abandoned buildings.
“So, ultimately, I would always think about going back!”
She further added: “It was a huge part of my life and it was such a fabulous thing to do and I do miss it because I loved what I was doing!”
Lucy confirmed to The Sun that although she is no longer on the BBC, her role on A Place in the Sun is permanent and she has been jetting off across the globe once a month in order to film the hit programme.
The TV presenter’s time on Homes Under The Hammer set her up perfectly for her brand new role as an ambassador for Together’s Hidden Gems campaign.
Lucy has made it her mission to raise awareness of the sheer amount of abandoned and derelict buildings – which currently stands at 1.55 million – amid the cost of living crisis.
The star said: “I’ve spent so many years of my life watching these old buildings have life breathed back into them on Homes Under The Hammer.
“Now, I want to inspire property developers and investors to think more creatively about breathing life into those 1.55 million abandoned homes.
“These buildings can be an eyesore and they get vandalised and for the purpose of the community we need to get people using these buildings that we already have.
“I want to put those buildings into the forefront of people’s minds.”
