Red Cross seeking donations for sickle cell patients

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — As the U.S. continues to grapple with a nationwide blood shortage, there is a group of patients who need regular blood transfusions.
Sickle cell disease is the most common genetic blood disorder in America, and patients frequently need blood.
AM Extra was joined by Dr. Yvette Marie Miller, executive medical officer for the American Red Cross Sickle Cell Initiative, to talk more about the condition and why donations are so critical.
