Dolphins bringing back Salvon Ahmed for fifth season with team
Miami Dolphins running back Salvon Ahmed is being brought back to the team for a fifth season.
Ahmed agreed to re-sign with the Dolphins, the team announced Thursday, days after reports he was returning on a one-year deal.
The shifty 5-foot-11, 197-pound running back will get another chance to compete for a roster spot through the offseason and training camp after his 2023 season was cut short due to a foot injury.
Ahmed, who can run and catch out of the backfield, had 22 carries for 61 yards and 16 receptions for 88 yards in eight games in 2023, scoring once on the ground and through the air.
The undrafted tailback out of Washington, who was first featured late in the 2020 season under former coach Brian Flores, has made it back on the roster in each of the past two seasons since the transition to new coach Mike McDaniel. The Dolphins coach also had a chance to work with him in his first training camp, in 2020 with the San Francisco 49ers when McDaniel was still run game coordinator there.
Ahmed has 593 rushing yards, 274 yards receiving and six total touchdowns in his first four seasons with Miami.
The Dolphins’ run game in 2024 figures to be led by the speedy combination of veteran Raheem Mostert and rising second-year back De’Von Achane. Power running backs in veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. and Chris Brooks, who made the roster as an undrafted rookie last season, are also under contract.
