Journalist suggests Conte could scupper Spurs’ chances of landing 22-year-old
Il Resto del Carlino journalist Marcello Giordano has backed Antonio Conte to poach Tottenham target Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna next summer if the Italian takes over as Bayern Munich boss.
Even though Richarlison has been among the goals over the last few months and Son Heung-min has excelled in the number nine role this season, it has been widely reported over recent weeks that Tottenham will prioritise signing a centre-forward in the summer (Football Insider).
One of the names thought to be on the North London club’s radar is Zirkzee, who is having an outstanding campaign at Bologna, with 11 goals and six assists across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).
Tottenham’s interest in the centre-forward first came to light back in January when TMW claimed that the Lilywhites were following the player’s progress.
Earlier this month, MilanLive.it suggested that Spurs could battle the Rossoneri for the 22-year-old’s signature when the transfer window reopens in June.
Conte could stop Spurs signing Joshua Zirkzee
However, Giordano has now suggested that Tottenham’s plans may be scuppered if Conte replaces Thomas Tuchel at the Allianz Arena at the end of the season.
It has been confirmed that Tuchel will part ways with Bayern in the summer and it has been suggested over recent months that the former Spurs boss could take over in Bavaria (La Repubblica via Football Italia).
Giordano believes that Conte will want Bayern to re-sign Zirkzee if he takes charge of the Bundesliga side.
The journalist told TV Play (as relayed by Sport Witness): “If Conte goes to Bayern, we already know that he has flagged Zirkzee to all the clubs that have contacted him.
“A few weeks ago there were rumours in Germany that [Zirkzee] wouldn’t be brought back because Bayern Munich recently spent a large sum on Kane, but if a manager like Conte, who plays with two forwards, arrives, then perhaps Zirkzee is needed.”

I would be quite surprised if Bayern turned to Conte to replace Tuchel, particularly given the Italian’s poor record in Europe. While Zirkzee might be on Tottenham’s radar, it does not appear as if he is near the top of the North London club’s wishlist for the time being.
