Judge Cannon tells Trump she's skeptical about motions to dismiss classified docs case
U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon expressed skepticism about two motions to dismiss a classified documents case against Donald Trump and two co-defendants.
At Thursday's hearing in Miami, Cannon appeared skeptical of both of Trump's arguments for dismissal.
Cannon said that Trump was unlikely to succeed in arguing his case should be dismissed based on the Presidential Records Act, according to CNN.
"It's difficult to see how this gets you to the dismissal of an indictment," Cannon said.
The judge called Trump's argument that he could designate some records as personal "forceful" but suggested it should be decided at trial.
"Your arguments might have some force, again, as it comes to a trial defense," she explained.
"But, Cannon said, the defense's arguments would effectively 'gut the PRA altogether' and allow future presidents to say clearly presidential documents are personal — an argument the Justice Department has made in court papers in the case," CNN reported.
The report noted that Cannon has now "expressed skepticism about both of Trump's two motions to dismiss that are being discussed Thursday."

Trump faces allegations related to mishandling classified documents. The case revolves around accusations that, following his tenure in the White House, Trump improperly managed sensitive government materials.
According to reports, these documents, which are required by law to be handled with the utmost security and care, were found in places they shouldn't have been, including Trump's personal estate.
The seriousness of these charges lies in the potential risk to national security. Classified documents contain sensitive information that, if disclosed improperly, could compromise the nation's safety and its operations.
