I was quoted £6,000 for a posh built-in TV wall in my soulless new build – so did it myself for less than £500
A WOMAN has shared how she saved £5,500 on her front room renovations by doing them herself.
Charlie Hobbis, from the UK, took to social media to show how she transformed her soulless new build house into a gorgeous country style home.
She revealed: “Watch as we transform our new build living room.”
In the first image, the room was bland with beige walls and grey floors – and was in serious need of some personality.
Speaking to Fabulous, Charlie revealed she was quoted around £6,000 for the wall – but decided to do it herself for much cheaper.
The next image showed how she transformed the wall with a built-in TV and log storage.
On moving day, she said there were lots of ’empty soulless rooms to fill’ and it took her an entire year to get round to decorating the front room.
“We did make the space work with what we’d got from the old house but I was desperate for a media wall feature,” she continued.
She first made the structure of the media wall and fitted the TV inside before plastering the wall.
This room is my proudest transformation!

Charlie managed to get the wall plastered for free with the help of her father-in-law.
The DIY whizz decided they needed to switch the grey carpet for a more modern touch and added laminate flooring as well.
Because of her pet dogs, she decided laminate flooring would be much more practical to keep clean.
The finished result of the easy media wall totally transformed the space into a country-style cottage.
The light wood and white walls complimented each other and brought in lots more light.
The media wall was finished with a built-in log holder to bring in the more natural elements of the room.
In the end, Charlie said she spend less than £500 on the transformation.
She added: “This room is my proudest transformation!
“Our new build home lacked personality and needed some life injecting.
“This DIY media wall is my favourite transformation!
“We DIYed 90% of the media wall ourselves and just had our father-in-law to do the plastering. It saved us a huge amount of money to DIY it instead of having a professional.”
She added that the wooden beam was her favourite feature of the DIY transformation.
The clip was a hit over on her TikTok account @overatcharlies where she regularly shares DIY home projects.
