The 35 men's college basketball teams who have never made it to March Madness as of 2024
March is when dreams come true in college basketball.
The NCAA tournament, at least nominally, gives all 351 eligible Division I programs an equal shot to compete for a national title. Of course, we know that nothing about college sports is actually equal.
While some of the most blue-blooded programs average multiple tournament wins per season, others in men’s college basketball have never even won a game. - including some surprising programs like Nebraska, which will have a chance to end its futility this season.
A multitude of even more unfortunate programs, mostly comprised of mid and low-majors, have never even had a chance to lace up their dancing shoes.
In men’s college basketball, 35 teams have never received a bid to play in the NCAA Tournament. In many cases this is because teams play in one-bid leagues or haven’t been at the Division I level for a comparably long time.
But four programs (Army, William & Mary, The Citadel and St. Francis Brooklyn) have been eligible for every tournament and never been lucky enough to crack the field.
At least one team - the Stetson Hatters - has already played its way off of the list this season after winning the Atlantic Sun tournament. Here’s the full list of all the eligible teams that are still searching for their first March Madness bid.
