The insurgents are using the panels to charge mobile phones, radios, and other gadgets as they move frequently to avoid detection. Initially stealing panels from villages and security outposts, Maoists now order them online. Security officers anticipate this trend to rise, posing a challenge to government welfare schemes aimed at electrifying remote areas without benefiting insurgents.
