On Thursday morning, DJ Moore spoke with 670 The Score, sharing that he’s still coming to terms with the aftermath of the surprising Justin Fields trade. Recognizing the NFL’s business nature, Moore admitted he was taken back by the trade. When asked about how the Bears next quarterback, likely Caleb Williams, could gain the respect of the locker room, Moore had a direct message for the rookie quarterback.
“I hope he just comes in and gets ready to work. You can’t worry about the legacy of Justin Fields. You got to go out there and worry (about your own thing).”
Caleb Williams is ready for the task.
On the Up and Adams show with Kay Adams, Jaylon Johnson emphasized the importance of hard work for rookies like Williams to earn the respect of veterans. Williams appears prepared for this challenge given his reported competitiveness and leadership inside both the Oklahoma and USC locker rooms. How he leads the team and interacts with his new teammates will be crucial early on in Chicago, alongside his performance on the field. While winning can solve many issues, Williams will also be judged on how he conducts himself off the field, much like Justin Fields did during his time with the Bears. Though Fields legacy isn’t daunting to surpass considering the team’s rebuilding phase during his tenure, it’s his leadership at Halas that veterans will expect Williams to emulate. Is that fair to ask of a rookie? Probably not. But if the team wins, it will be a much easier path to follow. And with all the weapons added this off-season with a few still likely on the way, the Bears finally seemed poised to take advantage of a QB on a rookie contract.
