Democrats Introduce Bill to Celebrate Abortionists Who Kill Babies

No longer content with rhetorically opposing pro-life laws, Democrats have introduced a bill in Congress to “celebrate” the work of abortionists, with one member of the Squad insisting, “I will never stop fighting to protect” those who take the lives of unborn children.

Senator Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) introduced a measure for Congress to recognize each March 10 as “Abortion Provider Appreciation Day” in order “to celebrate the courage, compassion, and high-quality care that abortion providers and staff offer to patients and their families across the United States.”

“The effects of the Dobbs decision were immediate and disastrous,” the resolution asserts. Dobbs has been “unleashing devastation” on the abortion industry by making it “increasingly difficult” for “individuals who can become pregnant” to receive “essential and time-sensitive care.” The legislation complains that, thanks to the issue of abortion being returned to the democratic control of the people, pro-life laws have been enacted in states populated by “1 in 3 women of reproductive age, plus more trans and nonbinary people.” Abortionists, the resolution claims, offer women experiencing abortion “dignity, empathy, compassion, and respect.”

Abortion, the resolution implies, helps Americans live “free from fear of violence.”

Pressley said she felt America must “stand in solidarity and honor the work of abortion care providers,” insisting abortionists’ “bravery and dedication deserve our recognition always, but especially right now, as they face threats and attacks from politicians and judges for delivering critical and often lifesaving care.”

“I will never stop fighting to protect these providers and the women and families that they serve,” Pressley said.

The resolution would take Supreme Court justices to task, as President Biden did during his most recent State of the Union address, by establishing the sense of Congress that “the Supreme Court of the United States erroneously overturned Roe v. Wade.” Even judicial activists such as the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg once described Roe as “heavy-handed judicial intervention.” A former clerk to Justice Harry Blackmun, the author of the 1973 Roe decision, said his mentor’s opinion in “Roe borders on the indefensible.”

The resolution would also officially condemn abortion “stigma,” the term the abortion industry promised to combat after its triumph last fall enacting Ohio’s Issue 1. Abortion “stigma,” Planned Parenthood has long held, means any reticence about any abortion at any stage of the pregnancy. Pro-abortion activists say every regret a woman feels after an abortion stems from abortion “stigma,” rather than lost motherhood and the belated recognition of her baby’s humanity.

Pro-life advocates said the resolution ignores the human lives sacrificed for money in abortion facilities nationwide and signals a further radicalization of secular-progressive politicians who now embrace and promote the taking of human life.

“For an abortion to be considered a ‘success,’ a child must end up dead. When a baby lives, what has happened is deemed a ‘failed abortion.’ So, a ‘successful’ abortionist is one who consistently kills babies — sweet, innocent, defenseless, voiceless babies,” Mary Szoch, director of the Center for Human Dignity at Family Research Council, told The Washington Stand. “The idea that the people who brutally tear apart unborn babies are somehow brave is absolutely ridiculous.”

The resolution also spreads, rather than counters, misinformation, she said. “The assertion that abortionists provide ‘lifesaving care’ is simply a lie,” Szoch told TWS. “If a procedure is done to save the life of a mother and her unborn baby dies as the result, the whole community mourns. The intent and the action of this procedure was not an abortion. Because of this, state laws around the country allow physicians to perform an action to save the life of the mother — even those where the unborn child regrettably dies.”

“By designating a day to honor abortionists, Senators Hirono and Peters and Representative Pressley are choosing to honor the very people who are responsible for killing over 63 million babies — the future of America,” Szoch emphasized.

The abortion industry celebrated the bill, including Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity (URGE), a group that considers “all abortion bans” as “unethical,” laws protecting children from transgender surgeries “dangerous,” and supports legalized prostitution and open borders.

Americans would see abortionists as “heroes [who] are protecting the lives and health of millions of people and their families,” were it not for “disinformation,” implied Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Liberal politicians in general, and the Biden administration in particular, have increasingly embraced and upheld the abortion industry, which donated tens of millions of dollars mostly to the Democratic Party in the 2022 midterms. Vice President Kamala Harris made the first-ever visit of a sitting vice president to an abortion facility last week, saying she wanted to “uplift” abortionists and calling abortionist Sarah Traxler an “extraordinary health care provider.” Her husband, Doug Emhoff, personally called and thanked abortionists for their work in June near the anniversary of the Dobbs decision. As far back as 11 years ago, then-President Barack Obama became first sitting president to speak to Planned Parenthood, concluding his remarks with the pro-abortion benediction, “Thank you, Planned Parenthood. God bless you.”

“The celebration of abortion under President Joe Biden is shameful,” Szoch told TWS. “President Biden has spoken at length about his Catholic faith. In fact, he was named for St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus. To Catholics, because of his role guarding the Holy Family, St. Joseph is known as the Protector of the Family. With Jesus and Mary, he fled to Egypt to escape King Herod’s slaughter of the innocents — the murder of all male babies two years old and under. Today, under President Joseph Biden, pro-abortionists are leading their own slaughter of the innocents — and they are celebrating the death of each child as if it is a badge of honor.”

“President Biden should be ashamed. He should repent, and he should strive to live as St. Joseph did,” Szoch concluded.

Pressley, Hirono, and Gary Peters (D-Mich.) introduced their respective bills (S. Con. Res. 6 / H. Con. Res. 95) on March 7. The bills have been referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pension (HELP) and to the House Committees on Energy and Commerce and the Judiciary Committee, respectively.

The bill is co-sponsored in the Senate by Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), John Fetterman (D-Penn.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Peter Welch (D-Vt.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Laphonza Butler (D-Calif.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Tina Smith (D-Minn.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), and Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.).

It is co-sponsored in the House by Representatives Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), Veronica Escobar (D-Texas), Joseph Morelle (D-N.Y.), Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-Calif.), Deborah K.
