GH SOMOLU MARKS WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY
The Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer of the General Hospital Somolu, Dr. Babalola Dokun Ogungbemile has advised patients and the general public to take care of their oral health, as oral diseases are among the most non-communicable diseases around the world.
He gave this advice recently when the Hospital commemorated the Y2024 World Oral Health Day with a demonstration of tooth-brushing techniques and an enlightenment campaign.
He further reiterated the need to reduce the burden of oral health diseases as the mouth is the gateway to the body.
Similarly, the Director and HOD, Dental Health Department, Dr. Mogbonjubola Otuseso, while educating the patients on why they need to brush morning and night, said most diseases that plague humanity can be easily detected from the mouth.
Another member of the department, Dr. Olanike Oladapo, who also buttressed the need for good oral health, said most diseases such as HIV, Diabetes and Alzheimer can be prevented if our oral health is sound.
She asserted that brushing with a toothpaste that has fluoride will help flush off all germs that may deposit dental plaques and calculus on the teeth, adding that the best toothbrush for cleaning the teeth is the medium brush.
The high point of the celebration was the demonstration of tooth brushing techniques, sharing of freebies and sample toothpaste, as well as sensitisation of the public on the essence of good oral health.
