Duke freshman Caleb Foster to miss NCAA Tournament

Duke freshman guard Caleb Foster will miss the NCAA Tournament with a right ankle injury, per head coach Jon Scheyer.

“He wasn’t able to really be himself, and so he’s going to be out,” Scheyer said. “He has a stress fracture in his ankle, and it’s a unique injury. And so we’ll be missing him.”

Foster hasn’t played since Feb. 24 vs. Wake Forest, where he scored eight points in 22 minutes of action. The guard was hopeful to play in the NCAA Tournament, and Scheyer said he had seen multiple doctors and tried to practice this week. Ultimately, Foster has been ruled out.

“My heart breaks for Caleb because Caleb has done literally everything you could ask from a guy who has an injury and trying to get back out there,” Scheyer said.

The 6-foot-5 freshman from Notre Dame High School (CA) averaged 7.7 points and shot 40.7% from 3-point range this season. He also started in 15 games for the Blue Devils.

Foster was a four-star recruit and the No. 23 overall player in the class of 2023 out of high school, per 247Sports.

No. 4 Duke will play No. 13 Vermont on Friday night in the South Region. Tipoff is set for 7:10 p.m. ET at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
