‘Still got a lot of years left in him to play all formats’: Chris Gayle Expresses His Unshakable Trust in Virat Kohli’s Game-Dominance
With cricket fans waiting for the highly anticipated IPL 2024 season, all eyes are on the famous Virat Kohli, who remains a formidable force in the game. Chris Gayle, a former colleague of Kohli’s with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, recently stated in an interview that he has complete faith in Kohli’s potential to dominate the game for many more years.
Gayle lauded Kohli for being incredibly rare and resilient. He emphasised that Kohli has the ability to perform well in all formats for a very long time and showed interest in the choices that Kohli would make going forward for both Indian cricket and himself.
“Very unique, the one and only Virat Kohli is still going and still going very strong. Still got a lot of years left in him to play all formats. We’ll see what calls he makes for himself and for Indian cricket as well,” Gayle told Cricbuzz.

Kohli’s physical and mental toughness are indisputable. Since the 2022 T20 World Cup, he has only played in two T20 Internationals, which has led to many speculating about his position on the team. But Gayle feels that Kohli has shown time and time again that he is a formidable player in all formats, displaying his deadly batting ability.
Gayle expressed his admiration for Kohli’s remarkable career by pointing out that he and Sachin Tendulkar are the only two players who have hit more than 50 hundreds in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Gayle was filled with amazement, acknowledging that words could not adequately capture their accomplishments, and felt honoured to be mentioned in the same breath as such legendary cricket players.
“Sachin and Virat, the only two guys with over 50 ODI centuries. I don’t even have the words to describe them. And to be put in the same category as them is special.”
Expectations regarding Kohli’s role in the team are high as RCB gets ready to play Chennai Super Kings in their season opener on March 22.
