Mum sparks backlash as she insists her kids don’t need iPads at dinner – because she’s taught them to be ‘well behaved’
A MUM has sparked fierce backlash after revealing her children don’t need to watch iPads at dinner, because they’re so “well behaved”.
Tiffany knew that her video would cause a debate, as she showed herself sitting in a restaurant having some of her drink.
She then turned the camera to show both of her children, who were happily sitting quietly, about to tuck into their meal.
“When you don’t need iPads at dinner cause you taught your kids how to behave in public,” she wrote over the top of the TikTok clip.
The comments section was immediately filled with people weighing in, as Tiffany predicted, with many agreeing with the single mum.
“For real, what happened to colouring on the kids menu and, oh I don’t know, TALKING??” one wrote.
“As someone who worked in a school, people need to implement this,” another said.
“Kids are so academically behind because of iPads!”
“Teaching kids how to behave in public may not always be easy or convenient but it is so worth it!” a third said.
“If you just distract them every time then they’ll never learn!”
“Research shows ipad kids are struggling to exist well within their societies and at school.. which affects all of us,” someone else wrote.
“Awareness definitely needed. No shaming!”
“My little brothers are iPad kids and its very embarrassing because they can’t act right unless a screen is in their face,” another admitted.
“I was raised no electronics at the table, seeing kids in restaurants on iPads the whole time blows my mind,” someone else said.
“Yes!!! We play family games! I spy is a big one! Or other silly games we can think of,” another wrote.
But others defended their iPad approach to dinner out with the kids.
“I think you made…all the iPad parents feel some type of way,” one wrote, with crying eyes emoji.
“If my baby needs a few minutes of Ms Rachel while mum finishes her food in peace, he’s getting it,” another added.
“Silence > screaming.
“Easy when your kids are older,” a third commented, rolling their eyes.
“Anyways, my kids are ahead of their grade level bc of learning games. I’ll do me!”
To which another hit back: “They also likely have the attention span of a goldfish!”
“T”hat’s sweet. Honey get the iPad, switch, phones and colours, we going out to eat!” someone else insisted.
“I’m an iPad mum, mostly so she will stop talking to every other table and the staff, she is an extrovert and as funny as it is to let her fly…” another wrote.
“The iPads are so they leave ME alone so I can eat without hearing my name 27392 times,” someone else commented.
“Well yea… at that age I’d expect better. But for my 2 year old it’s totally normal for him to not be able to sit still for an hour and half,” another wrote, referring to the fact that one of Tiffany’s kids is 10 and the other is around six or seven.
“We do iPads out and about and I have no shame about it,” someone else said.
“My 4yr old is wild and doesn’t sit still for 10 seconds.
“Hopefully as she gets older that will change but right now, we do what works.”
