Towson Times 2024 high school boys lacrosse preview: Dulaney, Loch Raven and Towson prepared to start the season with lofty goals.
The Towson and Dulaney boys lacrosse squads celebrated regional championships last season, but both were eliminated in the state quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Loch Raven fell one game short of a regional title.
See who will be scoring the goals and making the defensive stops when the area squads get underway this week.
Dulaney
Coach: Kyle Fiat, 14th season
2023 record: 9-8, regional champions, lost to Churchill, 6-5, in state quarterfinals
Top returning players: Seniors Sean Center (D — first team All-County, committed to Canisius College), Cooper Magday (D — committed to Kean College, second team All-County), Jack Santoro (M), Ryan Grogan (M — second team All-County), Evan Mowbray (M — second team All-County) and Roman Kaminski (DM).
Newcomers to watch: Juniors Ryan Dannenfelser (A) and Carter Habicht (M); sophomore Max Cooper (LSM) and freshman Constantine Bellios (A).
Coach’s outlook: ‘I’m excited for the 2024 Dulaney lacrosse team. We came into the season with some returning experience but are in need of younger guys, and a couple new guys to the program, to step up to create competition as well as fill some holes from last season. This team is hungry to improve and has done a nice job pushing each other to progress as a team each day.”
County outlook: “Catonsville, Towson, Hereford and Dulaney will compete this year to set themselves apart from the rest. At this point, I think any of the four teams could develop into the best in the county. Each game will be competitive and each game will matter. Regional standings have changed making regular season games even more meaningful.”
First game: Home vs. Archbishop Curley, 11 a.m. Saturday
Towson boys lacrosse
Coach: Phil Rossetti, second year
2023: 9-5, regional champion, lost to in state quarterfinals to Linganore, 7-3
Top returners: Seniors Patrick Corbett (LSM — first team All-County), Jackson Kanzler (M — first team All-County), Alex Hochrein (G — second team All-County), Ansen Park (M — honorable mention All-County), Matt Spencer (D — honorable mention All-County) and junior Alex Tyler (A — honorable mention All-County).
Newcomers to watch: Junior Jack Nowlan (D) and Wyatt Langenberg (D).
Coach’s outlook: “The Generals graduated 14 seniors from last year’s team but will look to compete in a very competitive Baltimore County division and out of conference schedule. A mix of upperclassmen and youth, the Generals will be defensively led with the return of Corbett, Spencer and Hochrein in goal. Look for sophomore midfielder Max Kosmides, senior midfielder Zach Hochrein, sophomore attackman Hudson Arrup and senior attackman Connor Parks to emerge as players who will help the offense this season alongside senior Alex Tyler.”
Loch Raven boys lacrosse
Coach: Nolan Kent, second year
2023: 7-4, lost in regional final to Pikesville
Players to watch: Senior Max Krasauskas (M) and Collin Nadolny (M); and junior Joe Onyijen (A).
Newcomers to watch: Freshman Devin Creitz (LSM), Creitz’s quickness, stick skills, and lacrosse IQ is a huge addition for us this year and I look forward to watching him learn and grow as a player.
Coach’s outlook: “This year I think our team has the potential to win our region and make a run in the state playoffs. Krasauskas is a crafty midfielder who can dodge from anywhere on the field, his ability to make multiple guys miss makes him a headache to defend. Nadolny made the switch from defense to midfield this year and has a shot that can find the back of the net anywhere inside the offensive zone. Onyijen has great vision and decision making abilities that allow him to find open cutters and generate a lot of offensive scoring opportunities. Senior Steven Liang will be our defensive leader this year. Liang is always in position to make a play. All of these guys bring great attitude and energy to our team each and every day.”
