KKR’s Nitish Rana Eyes 600-Plus Runs In IPL 2024 For A Place At India’s T20 World Cup Squad
Kolkata: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vice-captain, Nitish Rana, is eyeing 600-plus runs in IPL 2024 as the left-hander aims to claim a place in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. The T20 World Cup 2024 will be played in the USA and West Indies, just after the completion of the IPL. Rana, who led KKR in the absence of Shreyas Iyer I IPL 2023, played two T20Is and a single ODI for India in 2021 against Sri Lanka. However, poor shows in those three matches didn’t help him.
The Delhi cricketer stated he has the potential to score more than 600 runs in IPL 2024. “Everyone wants to play for the country and many players will have it in the back of their mind, but we have to stay in the present. I too want to get selected for the World T20 squad, but at this moment I am thinking only about the IPL,” Rana was quoted as saying to TOI.
“I believe I can get 600 runs in this tournament and I will be aiming for that.” Rana made his debut in IPL while playing for Mumbai Indians in 2016. He shifted to KKR after spending two seasons with the five-time champions.
One of the most consistent players in the side, Rana kept on scoring 300-plus runs every year from 2017 2022 with atleast two to three fifties. His breakthrough year came in IPL 2023 when Rana breached the 400-run mark for the first time in IPL.
Last year, Rana scored 413 runs in 14 matches at an average of 31.77 and a strike-rate of 140.96 with three fifties.
