'Something I warned against': Ex-GOP governor says Trump RNC grift was totally predictable
A new deal with the Republican National Committee will see a percentage of donations funneled directly to entities that are paying former President Donald Trump's legal bills, a revelation which led former Republican Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson to have an "I-told-you-so" moment.
Appearing on CNN, Hutchinson was asked about a new joint fundraising agreement in which the RNC will direct donations to a PAC that's paying his legal bills before the RNC gets a cut of the action.
"I'm not okay with it," he said. "The RNC represents all of the candidates that are running on the Republican ticket. They are raising money for all of the party operations, and now we see it funneled into entity that will help pay Donald Trump's legal fees. This is something I warned against some time ago. I think I'm glad it's been disclosed, so people would know this, but this is why the RNC is short on cash."
Elsewhere in the interview, Hutchinson took a shot at Republicans who angrily condemned Trump for inciting a deadly riot at the United States Capitol on January 6th, 2021, only to come crawling back and endorsing him once he secured the party's presidential nomination.

"This really reflects a lack of courage, a lack of commitment to what we have fought for in the Republican Party for decades," he contended. "And so I raise the alarm bell and I'll continue to do so... whenever you see leaders following Donald Trump's path, then you see the base buy an into it. What was a dark day [on January 6th] now becomes a patriotic day that is wrong and that doesn't make sense. It's the big lie."
Trump has not only not apologize for his role in inciting a deadly attack on a coequal branch of government, but he has even vowed to pardon the people who stormed the Capitol on his behalf.
