Spring 2024 fashion trends: What to buy for 2024
SPRING is in the air, the daffodils are out, the days are lighter for a little longer, and, yes, I have already seen people out in open-toe sandals and midi dresses.
It’s that time of year when we dig out the lighter layers, but if you want a fresh update for this year, then we’re here to help with the best spring 2024 fashion trends to buy now.
Whether you’re planning to dust off the cobwebs of your spring wardrobe, or you want to invest in a new spring capsule wardrobe we know just the best Spring 2024 fashion trends to weave into your wardrobe.
While we love a Spring wardrobe, it can be tricky to navigate thanks to the ever-changeable weather.
The trick? Transitional items which you can layer, or wear on their own.
Whether you pair your cream barrel leg jeans with a white shirt and trench coat in Spring, or layer with a chunky knit, boots, and puffer coat in winter.
This year there are several trends that we’ve eyeing up and weaving into our everyday looks.
In recent weeks the rich girl aesthetic has taken over the clean girl aesthetic, and of course, trench coats have had another resurgence – though they never really go out of fashion.
When it comes to footwear chunky footwear is out in favour of daintier designs, so we’re swapping our New Balance 550 for Adidas Sambas, or chunky leather boots for mesh ballet pumps.
While these are new additions to your Spring wardrobe, there are some failsafe staples you can rely on year in and year out, so if you’re not sure where to start, here are the ten key pieces every Spring wardrobe needs.
Button up cardigans
The rich girl cardigan trend has taken the fashion business by storm in recent weeks, and it’s super simple to create and instantly elevates any look.
Some may opt for classic colours to complement any outfit, from creams to greys, rich navy blues and blacks, while others may weave in the pastel shade with this style or a print.
We would pair them with wide-leg jeans and trainers for a casual look that is also a more put-together look appropriate for the office.
Numerous retailers have plenty of styles to shop, but we love the Crew Neck Button Front Cardigan, £19.50 from M&S because not only is it super affordable, but is soft on the skin.
Trench Coat
We would be lost without a trench coat in the spring and summer months.
It’s the perfect go-between, as it is perfect for the commute to and from work when it’s not quite warm enough without a jacket, but it’s also too warm for a wintery puffer.
A trench is a staple in itself, as it elevates even the most basic of outfits.
Plus, a trench coat can take you from day to night seamlessly, another reason why it’s foolproof in our style books.
We would opt for a size up for a more relaxed oversize fit, layered over trainers and a knit, or rich girl cardigan and jeans – plus a sweet neckerchief for spring, though you could style with a floral midi dress, and boots too.
We love this Buckle-Belt Trench Coat, £195 from & Other Stories – it’s an instant classic that will be in your wardrobes for years to come.
Ballet pumps
Ballet pumps are the flat shoe comeback we have been patiently waiting for, and while some of the fashion firm have been wearing them over the winter months, spring and summer are when we will be dipping our toes into the trend – quite literally.
Ballet pumps come in different styles, from round toe to square toe, mesh to leather, Chanel-inspired, to diamante encrusted designs, straps, strapless, the lot.
Dear Frances has captured our hearts with its Balla Mesh pumps which are priced at £350, and are super luxe-looking, versatile, and uber-comfortable.
Pair with jeans, trousers, or a chic summer dress, the options are endless.
White shirt
A white shirt will see you through the seasons and almost every occasion, hence why we love it so much and it is a key staple in our wardrobes time after time.
Finding the right shift can be difficult, as we prefer styles that are not fitted but boast a relaxed even oversized fit, so we can sit comfortably, but also layer with anything.
You can style a shirt in numerous ways, which is the beauty of the item.
Wear on its own with leggings, jeans, trousers, skirts, you name it it will go, pair under a sweatshirt or jumper.
This Pocket Oversize Shirt, £35.99 from Mango is a modern classic, and if you haven’t invested in a crisp white shirt, we urge you to snap up this one.
Floral midi dress
Nobody’s Child gets our seal of approval time after time, new collection after new collection, and it is the first retailer we think of when it comes to floral dresses.
The eco-conscious brand has an array of garments to shop but when it first launched floral dresses were its bread and butter, which is why it’s always on our radar for those feminine pieces.
The fabric is super lightweight and breathable, but the dresses, whether they are mini or midi length, can be dressed up or down and weaved into your winter wardrobe as well as your summer ensembles.
Nobody’s Child is our go-to place for floral midi dresses, in our opinion they can do no wrong – this Cream Wildflower Printed Dalia Midi Dress, £59 is a great example.
It’ll go with everything.
Denim jumpsuits
My wardrobe is brimming with jumpsuits, from long sleeve denim designs to short sleeve, playsuits, you name it, I own it.
I love the style as it is super easy to wear – just slip on and go.
Out of all the jumpsuits I own my long-sleeved denim jumpsuit is the one I wear to death all year round.
In the winter seasons, I will layer a roll neck underneath, or a long-sleeve top and pair it with chunky boots for warmth, and in the spring I will wear it on its own with the sleeves rolled up, trainers, and a trench coat, and still get compliments flooding in.
New Look’s Blue Denim Long Sleeve Jumpsuit, £59.99 is a great option if you have yet to invest in the trend.
The denim material makes this super durable, and warm enough to wear on its own when the weather is a little wet and windy in spring, but also perfect when the temperature rises too.
Striped shorts
Stripped shorts were everywhere last summer, and the trend is not going anywhere fast.
While we thought shorter hemlines were a thing of the past, evidently not, we can get on board in the warmer seasons when the temperature starts to rise.
We love this pair from Anthropologie, with a looser, bloomer style that is more flattering. Pair with an oversized shirt, blazer, or trench for some coverage, or casually with a vest top or t-shirt and trainers.
Crochet dress
When spring and summer come around we reach for crochet knits, as the fabric is more breathable for those balmy days, yet still provide warmth and coverage when the April wind hits.
Fearne Cotton’s latest collaboration with eco-conscious brand Nobody’s Child is, unsurprisingly, impressive, and the Mock-Crochet Knitted Midi Dress, £95, is one garment from the range we can’t stop thinking about.
The midi length, combined with the short sleeves, and stunning pattern creates a bohemian look we would gladly sport to festivals with a pair of cowboy boots, everyday wear with trainers, or even heeled wedges for a summer party.
Wide leg trousers
Wide-leg trousers, have been hugely popular in recent years and can be easily dressed up or down, depending on the occasion.
Not only is the spring trend versatile and easy to style, but it is more comfortable too thanks to the loose fit around the leg, which we are very much on board with.
We love our high-waisted styles to elongate the frame, particularly our legs, and give the illusion we are taller and leaner.
Take the trend further by opting for straight fit wide leg tailored trousers, even in a soft pinstripe, and a matching waistcoat, even a blazer, to nail the look but make it even more sophisticated for the office, race day, or weddings you are attending as a guest.
Pastel hues
Swap out your bold prints and colours for soft pastel hues come the spring season, to match the scenery around you – it’s a trend we see time after time, and aren’t mad about.
Butter yellow tones, pistachio gelato-inspired greens, and soft blue tones are the most popular among the bunch, though dusk pinks, muted lilacs and neutrals are also included in this colour palette.
Pastels can be included in your wardrobe seamlessly, whether it’s a pastel jumper paired with ecru-coloured jeans, in a summer dress, or skirt, or all combined in one print like this Sisterhood dress, £60.
If it’s a little chilly layer over a t-shirt, blouse or long sleeve, and under a pastel knit and trench, but come the warmer months you can simply style with sandals or heels depending on the occasion.
