Stacey Solomon opens up on shocking shed transformation that cost a fortune & left her asking ‘How can I be so stupid?’
STACEY SOLOMON has shared a terrible ordeal she had with cowboy builders, that caused her to say “How could I be so stupid?”
Mum of five Stacey, is set to front a new series called Renovation Rescue, after being head-hunted by Hollywood superstar Reese Witherspoon.
The show, which is being produced by the Legally Blonde star’s production company, Hello Sunshine, will see the X-Factor finalist coming to the rescue of those who have been abandoned by bad builders.
Stacey, who was taught DIY by her father, will teach them the skills they need to fix the work themselves, and will hopefully help them to save a lot of money.
The Sort Your Life Out host is now stranger to cowboy builders herself, and shared a bad experience that she and husband Joe Swash had when trying to convert their garden shed.
Speaking to MailOnline, Stacey said: “Years ago, in a previous home my husband and I wanted to turn our shed into a mini office.
“We paid half the money up front, they came in and built three-quarters of a brick wall.
“We never saw them again. There’s nothing you can do.
“You think, ‘God, how could I be so stupid?’ I’m not stupid. I’m a bright girl.
“It’s not about losing the money, it’s the psychological impact because you lose trust, self-worth.”
Stacey, who is mum to Zachary, 16, Leighton, 11, Rex, four, Rose, two and Belle, one, said that she believes that kids should learn DIY skills at school, to prevent them form having bad experiences with builders.
The I’m A Celebrity star is fan of DIY herself, and often shares videos of her crafts to her social media channels.
Fans were wowed by a recent video, in which she transformed a £30 Facebook Marketplace buy into a stunning wrapping station.
The Loose Women panellist also stunned fans at Christmas, with the elaborate display she created outside her home, Pickle Cottage.
Stacey said that her new DIY show has helped to reinforce to her the importance of family.
She said: “‘I have learned what really makes a home a home by making this show.
“The people I meet are in horrendous situations and the thing that’s holding them together isn’t what’s on the walls, how pretty or tidy things look, it’s who they are as a unit.”
