The simple hack to finding the best bargains on Vinted – and it’s all about looking for ‘the mums’
IF you’re looking to find bargain buys on Vinted but aren’t sure where to start – don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place.
Zara, a fashion fan from Edinburgh, has shared her ‘top secrets’ to spotting the best buys on the marketplace app.
And according to this content creator, the key is to ‘find the mums’.
Not only this, but she expressed the importance of scrolling through the app and ‘searching like your mum’.
Sharing her advice on social media, Zara posted her clip with the caption ‘Vinted top secrets.’
FIND THE MUMS
So if you want to bag a bargain, you’ll need to pay attention, as Zara said: “The key to finding good things on Vinted is to find the mums.
“You wanna find 40-year-old Linda, who’s in a wardrobe clear out and doesn’t realise that her Jane Norman top could sell for more than £2.
“In a bid to find these people, you’ve got to search like these people.
“So you need to type things in how your mum would search for them.
“The jacket I just, your mum would call that a light jacket, a light summer‘s jacket – do you know what I mean? You need to search [for] s**t like that.
“You just really need to tap into that mindset.
“Your mum would be typing in Y2K, cottage core aesthetic. You need to be like ‘flowy linen skirt’.”
LOOK ELSEWHERE
According to Zara, before searching on Vinted, Zara claimed that you should find something on Depop first, and then attempt to find it on Vinted.
She added: “Also find whatever you want on Depop, then go search on Vinted.
“I’m pretty sure you can image search on Vinted as well, so also just find something you like and then image search it.”
KEEP SCROLLING
And if you thought finding the best cheap buys was going to be quick, you’ll need to think again.
The Vinted fan claimed: “Also you do just have to scroll. I will be scrolling. Just when you’re sat on the toilet, you gotta scroll.
“I’d say every one in 200 things on Vinted [are] nice, so you just need to keep scrolling till you find it.
New Vinted rules to be aware of
IF you fancy clearing out your wardrobe and getting rid of your old stuff on Vinted, you’ll need to consider the new rules that recently came into play.
If people are selling personal items for less than they paid new (which is generally the case for second-hand sales), there is no impact on tax.
However, since January 1, digital platforms, including eBay, Airbnb, Etsy, Amazon and Vinted, must share seller information with HMRC as part of a crackdown.
You’re unlikely to be affected if you only sell a handful of second-hand items online each year – generally, only business sellers trading for profit might need to pay tax.
A tax-free allowance of £1,000 has been in place since 2017 for business sellers trading for profit – the only time that an individual personal item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is a profit from the sale.
However, firms now have to pass on your data to HMRC if you sell 30 or more items a year or earn over £1,700.
It is part of a wider tax crackdown to help ensure that those who boost their income via side hustles pay up what they owe.
While your data won’t be shared with HMRC if you earn between £1,000 and £1,700, you’ll still need to pay tax as normal.
“But eventually once you’ve liked enough nice stuff, when you open the app it will start showing you nice things.
“But yeah top tip is literally just to search like your mum. If you don’t know what to name something, just ask your mum what she’d call it.”
‘SO TRUE’
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @whatzaraloves6, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it was shared just five days ago, but has quickly racked up a whopping 173,100 views.
Many social media users rushed to the comments to agree with Zara’s claims.
